Xa Loi Temple and Meditation Center of Frederick, MD is a Buddhist Temple established in 2003
Back then a simple barn with no water, no electricity and no heat for ten years. Despite what would seem challenging, nothing was stopping us in our practice and from being here to teach anyone willing to learn... In 2013, with the help of many families, friends near and far, dedicated volunteers, we were able to remodel the old barn to what it is today. Thank you to all who made it happen, for this generation and the next. Frederick was the location of choice for our vision and mission to serve and heal spiritually individuals, families and the various communities, rooted in the very basic understanding that each and every individual deserves happiness and well-being. We are honored to continue serving everyone and grateful for the trust and friendships flourishing all these years. Metta and blessings to all!
Beginning in the year of 2003, Venerable Thich Bao Thanh and a group of close students bought a 33 Acre farm in Frederick, Maryland USA. This farm was to be built and used as a Buddhist temple to teach meditation, spiritual practice and for communityactivities. On the land, there was a very old barn that was abandoned for a long time. Inside the upper level, there was a lot of trash left there for many years and it was extremely dirty. After 10 years of building, renovating, and clearing the land, the temple was finally opened to the public in 2013. Since then we have been blessed so much and are so happy to share this temple for all to come and enjoy. Every year we keep adding to the beauty of the temple grounds. Each time you visit you may find something new! We thank all the volunteers and donors over the years who help make this possible.

In 2003 when the property was first purchased, the name selected for the temple was "Spirit Mountain Temple" in remembrance of the area in Vietnam that the spiritual tradition originated. Then in 2004, Master Bao Thanh accepted the invitation from the Buddhist Tam Bao Dien delegation to host Holy Relics of the Buddha and Holy Men and Women. It was a great honor to host the exhibit for three days in November 2004. During the exhibition, six new holy relics manifested. This is an extremely rare and miraculous occurrence. It was because of this miraculous event, that Master Bao Thanh decided to change the name of the Temple to "Chua Xa Loi" which means Temple of the Relics. The Buddhist delegation who had charge of the relics, later decided that Xa Loi Temple, Maryland, should be the permanent home of the collection of relics and these can be seen inside the Meditation Hall.
